1. PREP your skin…
Make sure all waxing and threading is done at least 2 days prior to your trial. If you are wanting to have any micro’s/facials before your wedding, it is a good idea to trial these 1 week before your makeup trial. Makeup will sit differently on your skin if it is freshly waxed or the surface is overly exfoliated. If you don’t already have a skin care regime in place it is a good idea to start, we are happy to offer some recommendations.
2. TRIAL that tan…
If you are considering a spray tan for your wedding day, have one a day or 2 before your trial so that the Makeup Artist can colour match you correctly. It is also a good idea to trial the colour of your spray tan so you know exactly how long to keep it on for. You don’t want to look orange on your wedding day so opt for a tan with a green base which will counteract this. We also offer mobile spray tans, ask us for more info!
3. ARRIVE fresh faced…
Before your trial, make sure your skin is fresh and clean, there is no need for you to apply any moisturiser or sunscreen as the Makeup Artist will use special products to prep your skin and ensure your makeup lasts. Some moisturisers and sunscreens have an oil base and can interfere with your makeup longevity & photography. If you have any sensitivities or allergies, be sure to let us know.
4. HAIR care…
If you colour your hair, have it refreshed at least 1 week prior to your trial. Shampoo and blowdry your hair the night before & ensure there is no product in your hair. If you are considering hair extensions for your wedding, or a colour change, cut or keratin treatments talk to your hairstylist about when these should be done. Be sure to bring along your veil or headpiece if you have one, or let the stylist know if you are having a flower crown or jewels.
5. WEAR white..
Opt for a light or white coloured top/dress on the day of your trial. This will give you an idea on whether the makeup will compliment your dress. Also consider the cut of the dress, is it strapless? You might want to wear a strapless top to ensure the look will come together nicely.
6. BRING along a friend…
Or a sister, your mum.. Someone who’s opinion you value. Don’t bring along a group of girls, just someone who knows you well that can give a second opinion. It’s more fun when you have someone there with you too.
7. TAKE some photos along…
Bring along some photos of hair & makeup looks you like so that the artists can get a feel of your style. Pinterest is great, but also have a look on our Instagram at some previous clients. It is a good idea to also bring along a photo of your dress, bridesmaids dresses & flowers so we can create the most flattering look for you that will fit in with the overall style of the day.
8. BE open to suggestions…
If you are undecided on what look you are wanting, ask the stylist for her recommendations. Or try a couple of different styles to see which suits you best. Take photos in between changes so you can look back on them. If you are unsure on anything, just ask. We want you to feel beautiful and 100% happy with our work so if something isn’t quite right speak up – we don’t bite!
9. TAKE snaps…
Your hair & makeup will look different in various lighting so take along a camera & photograph the end product outside in natural light as well as inside with a flash. Sometimes a flash will take away some of the makeup, so you may want it a little heavier for photos on the day.
10. RELAX and enjoy…
Enjoy the pampering, have a glass of bubbles & listen to some music – it is all about YOU. Maybe plan a nice lunch or dinner afterwards as you will be looking glamorous! It is a good idea to wear your makeup for as long as possible so you get an idea of what you will be needing for touchups on the day (usually a powder & lipstick). We stock lip colours and face powders so if you would like to organise a touch up kit for the day let us know.
